TRAFFIC ENGINEER - City of Casa Grande

Ideal candidate has experience performing professional civil engineering and project management work of considerable complexity specifically in the area of traffic engineering.

Salary: $68,036 to $93,995 annually, paid bi-weekly, with appointment normally made at the entry-level step; plus excellent benefits. This position is exempt under FLSA guidelines.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Traffic Engineering or a closely related field, and four (4) year’s professional technical traffic engineering work experience; possession of a Certificate of Registration as a professional engineer in the State of Arizona; construction management experience a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed outdoors and in standard office environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages, coordinates, directs and inspects traffic engineering projects and activities.

  • Conducts or directs traffic engineering studies, development reviews, neighborhood traffic management programs, traffic signal design, street signing and striping design, traffic, bicycle and pedestrian safety analysis, traffic barricading for special events and construction projects.

  • Inspects and monitors projects under contract; resolves discrepancies between field conditions and design plans; recommends methods of resolving complex problems.

  • Performs field tests and collects samples for laboratory test of materials.

  • Writes various analytical reports, and makes technical estimates of a specialized nature in connection with various projects.

  • Assures project deliverables meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.

  • Responds to questions from citizens and agencies on projects and plans.

  • Maintains records and files associated with transportation projects.

  • Supervises assigned staff and evaluates performance.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
     

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of City organization, operations, policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of civil engineering, mathematics and physics, and of the principles and practices of transportation planning along with the strength, properties, and uses of construction materials.

  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of the design, construction and maintenance of public works transportation projects, including streets and traffic control devices.

  • Knowledge of Federal, state, City and county policies, procedures, codes, regulations and ordinances related to civil and traffic engineering.

  • Knowledge and skill in the principles and practices of complex project management.

  • Knowledge and skill in the principles of record keeping and records management.

  • Skill in preparing reports and checking designs, details, estimates, plans, and specifications of transportation engineering projects; skill in analyzing and evaluating technical engineering data and construction documentation.

  • Skill in establishing effective working relationship with consultants, contractors, other agencies and the public.

  • Skill in using computers and complex engineering software applications, including GIS.

  • Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands and in effective oral and written communication.
